Gavi expected to start against Real Valladolid but must be careful

Hansi Flick is expected to make a few changes to his Barcelona team on Saturday when the Catalans take on bottom side Real Valladolid in La Liga.

Gavi is expected to come in to the starting XI for the match and make his 12th La Liga start of the 2024-25 season.

However, the combative midfielder will have to be careful if he does play. He’s just one booking away from a one-match ban and if he sees yellow on Saturday he’ll miss the Clasico.

Gavi isn’t the only player in this situation. Inigo Martinez and Raphinha are also walking a disciplinary tightrope and will aim to avoid a booking.

Yet, unlike Gavi, there’s a chance both players could be rested. Flick has Andreas Christensen and Ronald Araujo available to play and could give Martinez a breather.

Raphinha may also be rotated as the game falls at a busy time and in between two Champions League semi-final ties with Inter.

The Brazilian bagged a hat-trick against Real Valladolid at Montjuic at the start of the season but Flick will want him fresh for the San Siro.
