Welcome to the 2025 Met Gala: the most anticipated night in the fashion calendar. As the primary fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, the event marked the opening of Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, a landmark exhibition exploring the significance of sartorial dress in the formation of Black diasporic identities through the cultural and historical lens of dandyism. Notably, it is the Costume Institute’s first exhibition in over two decades to focus on men’s fashion, and the first to place Black style at its centre.

On the evening of 5 May, hundreds of guests stepped out of sprinter vans lined along Fifth Avenue and ascended the museum’s steps in custom looks that interpreted the “Tailored for You” dress code – a nod to Superfine’s emphasis on suiting. Guest-curated by Monica L Miller, the exhibition builds on her 2009 book Slaves to Fashion, in which the Barnard College professor and chair of Africana Studies positions Black dandyism as a political and aesthetic tool used to signal taste, status and cultural distinction. The evening saw a plethora of exquisitely tailored looks take to the Met Gala 2025 red carpet, with all the evening’s standout looks documented right here.
This year saw appearances from this year’s co-hosts – A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams and Vogue’s Anna Wintour – alongside honorary chair LeBron James. The Host Committee added even more star power, with names including Edward Enninful, André 3000, Simone Biles, Doechii, Ayo Edebiri, Jeremy O Harris, Regina King, Spike Lee, Janelle Monáe, Jeremy Pope, Sha’Carri Richardson, Tyla and Usher, while surprise appearances from the likes of Madonna and Rihanna cemented the event as fashion’s glitziest night out.
